It’s hard to believe it has almost been a year since the Nashville 9 kick-off party. Here is a little bit of what has happened since the nine days ended.

Where are they now?

Nashville 9 Songwriter Luke Sheets has found recent success with a song that was written during the Nashville 9 project. “Hang On” was cut by the artist Plumb and will be on her album “Beautiful History” being released in November. The song has also been remixed for the Dance radio format and is currently available on an album featuring 11 remixes of the song by acclaimed DJs Digital Dog, Dave Aude, Bronleewe/Bose and Pete Hammond. Download the album here. “Hang On” is currently #30 on the Billboard Club/Dance Charts and was named “Power Pick of the Week” for being the greatest gainer past the top 20.

Luke has begun writing for a solo album he plans to release in the summer of 2010. More Luke Sheets music at www.lukesheets.com.

Nashville 9 Screenwriter Chad Morgan was selected along with Doc Producer Joel Wilson to represent Nashville for the pilot episode of a new reality series, "The 48 Hour Film Showdown", appearing on the Halogen Network. The show, a spinoff of the 48 Hour Film Project, pits two teams from two different cities in a competition to make the best possible short film in a 48-hour span. Along with three other Nashville team members, Chad and Joel, competed against a team chosen from Atlanta. The show will air at the end of October.

Chad also competed in the Nashville 48 Hour Film Project this past July along with several Nashville 9 short film and doc crew members, taking home awards for Best in Genre (Family Film) and Best Use of Dialogue. The film was produced by ilovebetty and included on the crew Nashville 9ers Joel Wilson, Danny Dones, Chad Morgan, Tracy Goldenberg, Josh Eldred, Todd Smith, Julie Smith, Sean Smith, and David Ditmore. Chad is currently drafting a TV pilot set in Nashville about a country music dynasty.

Nashville 9 Actor Nat McIntyre signed with Stewart Talent and has developed and been working on a theatre production of a shakespeare/top gun remix called "Jesters Dead". He is shooting his second Law and Order episode this week and has had three callbacks for a Broadway play. If this isn't enough he is also teaching with an off broadway theatre, Epic Theatre ensemble, in inner city schools and with the Theatre Development Fund, which brings high school students to broadway plays and runs workshops with them. Personally, he is still dating the fantastic Jenny Moss (she now lives in New York!) and he also just became an uncle for the second time.

Nashville 9 Utility Man Brandon McDonald is planning a trip to Honduras to work in an orphanage in January. He has been busy flipping houses and helping other Nashville 9ers with renovation projects. Check out his work at www.m-pulseproperties.com

Mike Logen [Artist] opened for John Legend at Chastain Park Ampthitheatre in July. He also has the title cut on Mat Kearney’s album “City of Black and White,” which was released in June. He has been on tour opening for Jonny Lang, Sister Hazel and the Clarks. A new album is currently in the works.

Jenny Moss [Sponsorship Coordinator] has moved to New York City to open a NY branch for Blink Marketing. She is sharing her experience on her new blog www.southernapplegirl.com.

Jenn Sheets [Coordinator of all things Nashville 9] has spent the last year keeping busy at Fresh Dirt Marketing as well as helping her house recover from the project's nine days and premiere, tying up loose ends for the project, and wondering what Luke and Chad will come up with next.

Meghan Kabir [Artist] is in a band called FlashMob. She signed management with Scott and Doc McGhee and has been getting some MTV placements.

Jaclyn James [Artist] just got engaged!

Lyra Smith [Intern] has secured an internship with the Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report."

Denitia Odigie [Artist] recently released her new EP, "Brick by Brick," currently available on iTunes.

Michael Gomez [Photographer] is still shooting at Studio Daylight and has just launched a new project at www.thephotofactor.com to serve the photography community.

Theresa Meeker [Actor] associate produced and acted in an Accolade award winning film titled Look. She also got engaged to Look’s director Ryan Pickett (documentary photographer.) Theresa landed a main role in a commercial for the Tennessee Lottery over the summer and now lives in Ormond Beach, Florida, where she attends Flagler College pursuing a Communication major and History minor.

Dominic Barkaszi [Actor] is still busy acting in a variety of projects. His greatest passion however is DRUMMING . He did an opening solo for Guitar Center's Drum Off and caught the eye of several people including judge "Spider" Dubose, who wants to encourage Dominic on his path as the world's next famous drummer. Other than that he is just enjoying being a kid and doing the stuff kids do at age 11. Shhhh... don’t tell his mom!

Todd Smith [Editor/Documentary Photographer] and wife Julie Smith [Production Manager] are building a home in the Nashville suburb Bellevue and have completed a few local video projects. They also started their own production company, Whistlestop Productions, so you can now email Todd at Todd@whistlestopvideo.com for all your video needs!

David Ditmore [Doc Crew] has set a goal to do a video project each month to keep honing his acting skills. He’s invited fellow filmmakers and actors to practice and experiment with him. Check out his projects at http://davidditmore.blogspot.com/

Christy Morgan [Script Supervisor] worked as the dialect coach for a film entitled "Rivka," shot in Louisiana on the multimillion dollar "Year One" set. The film, which will be shown to women in the Middle East, is a series of 12 biblical lessons and a two-hour feature film. Christy also voluntarily helped with the animals on set: goats, sheep, donkeys, and camels... and sometimes, she named them!

David Wagner [Sound Supervisor] In late spring, Happen-Stance completed a series called "Digital Diary," two 15-minute discover films used for young adult youth groups, for the God films/United Methodist church. David also recorded and mixed two records this year—Ryan Greenawalt "What You Heard" (funk and/or R&B) and Good Gang Music Factory Presents "Animal Friends," a kids record. On top of that he worked on a four-day bluegrass festival called "Jerusalem Ridge." David is currently looking for full-time employment in/or closely related to the music business, so give him a shout at david.wagner@happenstanceproductions.com if you hear of any opportunities.

The Project
In the first nine days of November 2008, four longtime friends undertook an ambitious project that explored storytelling, the artistic process, and the Nashville, Tennessee community. They called it The Nashville 9. Assisted by a grassroots collective of Nashville cast, crew and musicians, the foursome worked in frenetic 24-hour cycles to turn Nashvillians’ freshly told stories into written songs and scenes that were immediately recorded and filmed. Each day, one story sparked one song and one scene. The result after nine days: an album featuring the nine songs recorded by different Nashville artists and producers, and a short film comprising the nine scenes shot at various Nashville locations.

The evening will include a brief introduction to the Nashville 9 project, musical performances by four Nashville artists featured on the album (The Champion and His Burning Flame, Michael Logen, Kindercastle, and Jaclyn James with special guest Plumb) and a premiere screening of the short film. Attendees will also get a sneak peak at a forthcoming documentary about the Nashville 9 project.

Community Outreach
A community effort of this magnitude warrants a deserving partner. The Nashville 9 has adopted the Boys & Girls Club of Middle Tennessee as the benefactor of the project. The Nashville 9 aims to help the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee by collecting audiovisual equipment from willing donors to outfit a media center at one of the organization’s Nashville-area clubs. Members of the Nashville 9 team will also be donating their time to educate the children at the clubs on how to use the equipment and create multimedia projects of their own.

All proceeds from the “Soundcheck” party preceding the Concert and Premiere will benefit The Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee’s media center initiative.

The Nashville 9 album will be available for sale at the premiere and will include directions for accessing the short film and additional media related to the project. The song “Hang On,” written by Luke Sheets and recorded by Jaclyn James during the Nashville 9 project, has already been re-recorded as a track for Plumb’s forthcoming album. That single will be released to radio in February 2009.

Writing, recording and filming for The Nashville 9 was completed on November 9th! Now that we've almost completely recovered from the intense nine-day project (not to mention the months of pre-production), we're turning our attention to our web site. Beginning Dec. 1 and continuing for nine weeks, we'll be giving you an inside look at each day of the project through blog posts by screenwriter Chad Morgan and songwriter Luke Sheets. On each of the project's nine days, Morgan and Sheets took a story contributed by someone in Nashville and wrote a film scene and song, respectively, based on that story. Now the two writers will be sharing the story that was chosen each day, then sharing their thoughts and memories of writing that day. The Nashville 9's blog (http://www.thenashville9.com/blog/) will feature regular updates based on the following schedule:

- Each Monday, one of the project's selected stories will be posted.

- Each Wednesday, screenwriter Chad Morgan will post a new blog entry detailing his writing process for that day's scene.

Duck Race Theme Song

Nashville 9 songwriter Luke Sheets (along with co-writer Reed Pittman) recently finished writing a Theme Song for The Boys and Girls Club Duck Race. The song "Floating Down The River" is a fun children's song about a Duck getting up enough courage to jump in the river. A last minute drum track was added at the 11th hour by good friend and artist Geoff Hunker. Listen to the song.

Grenvicz, Lee, Moreno, Smith, and Zahn Come On Board!!

Lots of things have been happening here at The Nashville 9. Several new key players have joined up The Nashville 9 team.

Holly Grenvicz will take on the Marketing role. As principal for Fresh Dirt Marketing, she will have the responsibility of making sure there is a plan in place for how people will hear about the event.

Jeremy Lee of Weimarhymes Publishing will be The Publisher. He will keep all of the songs on the right track and act as a consultant to the Music Industry.

Lois Moreno has come on board as The Nashville 9 Still Photographer. She will not only be taking photographs during the production but will also be lending her significant talents as an actor.

We are excited to add Tyler Smith to the project. He will be taking on the difficult job of cameraman.

Finally, Missy Zahn will the the Nashville 9 Onsite Story Coordinator. This is a key role that will involve her helping to coordinate all the details involved in get the 81 stories.

Luke Sheets to play "Saddle Up" Benefit

Nashville 9 songwriter Luke Sheets will be performing at the Avenue Bank Country Ride N' Roll benefit concert, Saturday, Sept. 20, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Duke It Out Farm in Franklin. Also performing will be hit songwriters Marcus Hummon, Skip Ewing, Tim Johnson, Jason Matthews and James Slater. The concert is open to the public and tickets are $50 if purchased in advance or $75 at the gate. Along with the concert, ticket price includes dinner and spirits. All proceeds go to benefit Saddle Up!.

Ryan Pruitt and Beggars Fortune - Bogota Benefit

"Ellen's Diner" editor, Todd Smith, is once again gearing up to join forces with the Nashville 9 - this time performing double duties. Todd will be reprising his role of Editor for the short, plus taking on the added duties of Camera Operator for the documentary. Fearing that Todd may not "be as busy as we think we could push him," unnamed sources have reported that Todd may be asked to fulfill one or more subsequent roles. Todd could not be reached for comment.

Ryan Pruitt Helps Raise Money For MDA

The Nashville 9 is very proud of their Music Coordinator - Ryan Pruitt. This week Ryan was "arrested" by the MUSCULAR DISTROPHY ASSOCIATION. Ryan, in an effort to "bail himself out" raised over $800 for the cause.

The Nashville 9 team completed a film over the weekend of July 18-20. The short film, Ellen's Diner, was done as part of the 48 Hour Film Project. We drew the genre "romance" and were assigned the following—each of which had to be included in the films by the 53 participating Nashville teams: a character (Rob Hatch, security consultant); a line of dialogue ("My brother had one just like that."); and a prop (calendar). We had 48 hours to write, cast, film, edit, and score a movie that ran 4 to 7 minutes (with an extra 60 seconds allowed for credits). We made the deadline with minutes to spare and are proud of the results. Click Here to Watch!

Undertaking the daunting role of Music Coordinator, Ryan will be responsible for acquiring all 9 artists and all 9 producers for the November project...and that’s the easy part. Ryan will also be coordinating all schedules on the music side, along with finding and managing numerous other personnel. Quite busy already – General Manager at the Frothy Monkey (where he and Luke met,) drummer for Nashville based bands Beggars Fortune and Art Four Sale, and, along with wife Kelly, a new parent to son Abbott – Ryan seemed the perfect candidate for such a stress-filled job.

As if appearing concurrently in two plays at The Old Globe Theatre and traveling periodically to both L.A. and New York wasn’t enough to keep Nat’s plate full, he is also starting a bilingual training program for teenagers at The Globe and directing a production of Romeo and Juliet. Members of the Nashville 9 Defy Death and Sanity

Luke and Brandon put The Nashville 9 in a precarious position this past Wednesday when they decided to go skydiving(!), a situation also exacerbated by the fact that they were joined by Luke's wife Jenn, who carries a significant amount of the Nashville 9 load. Noticeably vacant from the excursion were Nat, who is currently in productions in San Diego, and Chad, who was working - and being held responsible by both Luke and Brandon for taking care of their dogs were something unforeseen to happen.

Nashville 9 Screens Film at the Belcourt

“Ellen’s Diner,” the Nashville 9’s contribution to this year’s 48 Hour Film Project, screened Tuesday night at the Belcourt. The film will be available online after next week’s awards ceremony. Tickets for the awards ceremony may be purchased at the Belcourt.

Pre-Screening Party at Cabana

To celebrate the screening of their 48 Hour film, “Ellen’s Diner,” the Nashville 9 threw a party on Tuesday at Cabana. In attendance were several other teams and participants from the 48 Hour Project, as well as creatives from the music, advertising, and marketing communities. The Nashville 9 would like to thank all who came out and especially the people of Cabana for making this party a complete success.
